The 7.62 mm PKMSN2, PKM machine guns are designed to engage hostile manpower and fire weapons. They are basically the Kalashnikov machine guns modernized to decrease weight and increase ease of operation. The barrel fins are eliminated, the flash hider, cocking handle, butt plate and trigger guard have another design. The PKMS machine gun features a new tripod mount with the frame of the elevating mechanism used as a pedestal for vertical fire. The right rear leg of the tripod mounts a post for attachment of the belt box. It enables only one crew member to carry the machine gun in combat and change fire positions without unloading the machine gun.
